Exploding Traffic Signal

AOI - Serco Prize for Illustration. London Stories
This was my entry to the competition.
The first ever traffic signal was placed near the  Houses of Parliament on 10th December 1868.  Based on the semaphore arms and lights used in the railway signaling systems; it had semaphore arms for daytime and a red and green coloured gas lamp for night.  Unfortunately a month later it exploded injuring the policeman operating it and was never used again.
